Transcript: Taking The Fear Out Of Immigration, With Hillary Walsh

00:00:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

What led you to wanting to become an attorney, and specifically immigration?

00:00:04 Patrick Martin LCSW

That’s a very specialized field and very difficult, I imagine.

00:00:07 Hillary Walsh

I could connect somehow with a population who was.

00:00:14 Hillary Walsh

The expectation was too high, the punishment too severe.

00:00:20 Hillary Walsh

And I I think I could just really relate with that.

00:00:22 Hillary Walsh

And so over the years, especially through law school, I really latched onto it.

00:00:27 Hillary Walsh

And immigration law is also really complex to have the emotional complexity of keeping a family together, combined with some of the most complex areas of the law possible, and you marry those things together.

00:00:41 Hillary Walsh

And you have.

00:00:42 Hillary Walsh

Immigration law, and it’s a ton of fun.

00:00:44 Patrick Martin LCSW

Are you or someone you know struggling with the challenges of immigration will then stick around?

00:00:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Because in this episode of the mental Health Toolbox, we’re talking with leading immigration attorney Hillary Walsh, who takes the fear out of immigration so you can focus on Libby.

00:01:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

So let’s go.

00:01:03 Patrick Martin LCSW

A former foster care and juvie kid turned lawyer, Hillary Wolf helps immigrants live free in the United States.

00:01:11 Patrick Martin LCSW

Outside of her company new friend here, she’s an adjunct law professor, mother of four military wife and an avid Phoenix Suns fan.

00:01:20 Patrick Martin LCSW

In the past 10 plus years of practicing immigration law, she’s represented clients before the US Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Nevada, the 9th 6.

00:01:31 Patrick Martin LCSW

And 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

00:01:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

The board then Gratien appeals and immigration courts nationwide.

00:01:38 Patrick Martin LCSW

Hillary believes that there is a solution for every problem, and she injects that relentlessness into her approach to immigration law.

00:01:46 Patrick Martin LCSW

Hillary Walsh started her immigration law firm in 2019 and grew it to multiple million dollar annual revenues within two years.

00:01:55 Patrick Martin LCSW

She serves an undocumented Spanish speaking client base, yet does not speak Spanish herself.

00:02:01 Patrick Martin LCSW

This, for her, is proof that communicating the value of your service is not done.

00:02:06 Patrick Martin LCSW

True words.

00:02:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

It is done through a feeling.

00:02:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

When Hillary US Air Force husband job landed the family in Phoenix in 2018, she couldn’t find work as an immigration lawyer because she didn’t speak Spanish.

00:02:20 Patrick Martin LCSW

Facing hefty daycare costs for four young children, she knew she had to make money if she wanted to work.

00:02:27 Patrick Martin LCSW

So with no book of business, no contacts.

00:02:30 Patrick Martin LCSW

And no clients.

00:02:31 Patrick Martin LCSW

She started new frontier.

00:02:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

And migration services on January 1st, 2019. Fast forward and she broke the $1,000,000 barrier in 2020 and a $2,000,000 barrier in 2021. Her firm is currently on a $4.8 million run rate with over 75 employees.

00:02:54 Patrick Martin LCSW

And while she has big goals to become one of the only female owned businesses to earn more than 10 million in annual revenue, which only 4.2% currently do, it’s not the money that really moves her.

00:03:06 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s about setting a new standard for what people particularly women and girls are capable of in the US if they can live free.

00:03:15 Patrick Martin LCSW

A country that not that long ago did not allow women to take out a business loan without a male cosigner until 1988 or even have acting leadership roles.

00:03:28 Patrick Martin LCSW

You can learn more about Hillary’s work by visiting New Frontier US.

00:03:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

So let’s dive in.

00:03:43 Patrick Martin LCSW

Hello Hillary, and thank you so much for making time to be on the mental health Toolbox Video podcast today.

00:03:50 Patrick Martin LCSW

I really, really appreciate your time and willingness to share your wisdom and services with our community.

00:03:56 Hillary Walsh

Yeah. Thank you for.

00:03:57 Hillary Walsh

Having me, I’m excited to be.

00:04:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

So much to dive into.

00:04:01 Patrick Martin LCSW

I have never had an immigration attorney on, so this will be fun.

00:04:06 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s near and dear to my heart as a social worker.

00:04:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

First therapist.

00:04:09 Patrick Martin LCSW

2nd is social justice and helping those who can’t get the help they need straight away.

00:04:16 Patrick Martin LCSW

So I love the work you do.

00:04:19 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m excited to dive in.

00:04:20 Patrick Martin LCSW

And so I don’t speak for you.

00:04:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

Perhaps you can let our audience know what it is you do and what you’d like to share today.

00:04:28 Hillary Walsh

Hi, thank you so much.

00:04:29 Hillary Walsh

I hope undocumented immigrants live free in the United States, so we of course can help people who are legally here and have work authorization or whatever it may be.

00:04:40 Hillary Walsh

A lot of.

00:04:41 Hillary Walsh

Canadians come and they end up getting married and want to stay, and so they’re not ever undocumented, but my real passion.

00:04:48 Hillary Walsh

Lies in helping people who don’t have papers get papers and then the best is when they are able to leave the country and go home for the first time and sometimes.

00:05:00 Hillary Walsh

Decades and see their families in their home country and then of course return with ease and with papers and live life in a much freer way.

00:05:09 Hillary Walsh

So that’s what I do.

00:05:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

That is fantastic.

00:05:12 Patrick Martin LCSW

I can’t tell you how many stories I’ve heard from clients who are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to family and obligations and loyalties and providing and also making those very, very tough decisions about.

00:05:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

Wanting to be with the ones they love, right?

00:05:27 Patrick Martin LCSW

And not necessarily having the freedom to do so or being fear of deportation and being sent away from their family.

00:05:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

And there’s so many nuances I’m sure many of our listeners are are already familiar with and perhaps living that nightmare right it is.

00:05:42 Hillary Walsh

It is a nightmare and I think a.

00:05:44 Hillary Walsh

Lot of people.

00:05:45 Hillary Walsh

Assume that the legal process is straightforward for being able to legalize your status.

00:05:51 Hillary Walsh

And unfortunately, our immigration laws are structured in a way that’s really dumb prejudice against people of color, people from Mexico, in particular, the Philippines, China.

00:06:02 Hillary Walsh

This is just the way our country has always been, regrettably and.

00:06:07 Hillary Walsh

I would love.

00:06:08 Hillary Walsh

To see immigration reform like massive immigration reform.

00:06:12 Hillary Walsh

I almost say within my lifetime, but I really want to see in the next 10 years.

00:06:15 Hillary Walsh

So I I really expect to outlive, and immigration reform be something that’s in my rearview mirror and that’s I’m going to be part of that and that’s what’s super excited.

00:06:24 Patrick Martin LCSW

No doubt, no doubt.

00:06:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

I did a little digging on your background, and you’ve made quite the traction in very little time, so.

00:06:30 Patrick Martin LCSW

As our audience will soon learn, so come what?

00:06:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

We know, you know, you’ve been in the legal field for, what, 10 years, 11 years?

00:06:39 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, this is me in October will be like my 10-year anniversary of getting sworn in as an attorney.

00:06:45 Hillary Walsh

’cause you take the bar and probably you’re familiar with this in.

00:06:48 Hillary Walsh

Your field you.

00:06:49 Hillary Walsh

Take the exam.

00:06:50 Hillary Walsh

They have to wait a long time.

00:06:51 Hillary Walsh

And so I graduated.

00:06:52 Hillary Walsh

Law school 10 years ago this year and it’s hard to believe how fast 10 years goes.

00:06:58 Patrick Martin LCSW

No kidding.

00:06:59 Patrick Martin LCSW

No kidding.

00:07:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m in the same boat going on, uh, eleven years in a post grad so.

00:07:05 Speaker 3

Yeah, I’m fine.

00:07:05 Hillary Walsh

I don’t know when you know.

00:07:06 Hillary Walsh

We we regard ourselves as air quote baby lawyers and you’re like oh, I’m a baby lawyer and you’re and then one day you’re no you’re you are fully loaded and you’re respected and.

00:07:18 Hillary Walsh

You know you have St cred, and I don’t know when that transition happens, but.

00:07:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, no idea.

00:07:23 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m with you.

00:07:23 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m like, I don’t know, but it happened somewhere along.

00:07:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

Somewhere along the line.

00:07:27 Hillary Walsh

And maybe it’s.

00:07:28 Hillary Walsh

Belief maybe all of a sudden then you’re just like, no, I just believe it about myself now, and maybe it’s.

00:07:33 Hillary Walsh

Not a certain number of years, but yes.

00:07:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

We own it, right? Yeah.

00:07:38 Patrick Martin LCSW

So you’ve been in legal field for going on a decade now?

00:07:43

But what about?

00:07:44 Patrick Martin LCSW

Before that, what what led you to wanting to become an attorney?

00:07:48 Patrick Martin LCSW

And specifically, immigration?

00:07:50 Patrick Martin LCSW

That’s a very specialized field and very difficult, I imagine, you know, to swallow.

00:07:56 Hillary Walsh

Well, I was in foster care for a really short time when I was a teenager, and my family didn’t have any run in with the law or anything like that.

00:08:04 Hillary Walsh

It wasn’t.

00:08:06 Hillary Walsh

I think we think of kids in foster care, and we have a stereotype in mind.

00:08:12 Hillary Walsh

Maybe from like, watching Annie as a kid, but I was not that stereotype.

00:08:17 Hillary Walsh

We had a perfect from the outside we had a perfect family and inside we had dysfunction and alcohol abuse and domestic violence.

00:08:26 Hillary Walsh

But we knew how to show up when we were on the outside so much.

00:08:29 Hillary Walsh

Like built performers we were, we were trained performers, all of us.

00:08:35 Hillary Walsh

Isn’t that funny about life?

00:08:37 Hillary Walsh

Because I’m sure in your in your role.

00:08:40

As a social.

00:08:41 Hillary Walsh

Worker and therapist you see people who they.

00:08:43 Hillary Walsh

Know how to.

00:08:44 Hillary Walsh

Perform on the outside, but on the inside they have so much that they’re wrestling with and.

00:08:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Oh, absolutely.

00:08:49 Hillary Walsh

That that is.

00:08:50 Hillary Walsh

For sure, my background, probably even to some extent, we do it even you and I are doing it even today.

00:08:58 Hillary Walsh

I think like.

00:08:59 Hillary Walsh

We’re all just trying to show up and.

00:09:01 Hillary Walsh

Put our best face.

00:09:02 Hillary Walsh

Forward on some level, but I got put in foster care just for.

00:09:07 Hillary Walsh

About a nine-week period, and it was during that time when I had my first real interaction with the legal process and I think that laid the foundation.

00:09:17 Hillary Walsh

I was 15 men, but I think that laid the foundation for.

00:09:21 Hillary Walsh

You’re going to do something and this isn’t going to be the last time you’re in this courtroom.

00:09:25 Hillary Walsh

I didn’t.

00:09:25 Hillary Walsh

I don’t remember ever.

00:09:26 Hillary Walsh

Thinking those thoughts.

00:09:28 Hillary Walsh

But when it was time for me to go to a courtroom again after I was already in law school?

00:09:35 Hillary Walsh

You’re just not as scared like there’s a whole other feeling when you go in as a legal representative versus as a defendant or a plaintiff or victim.

00:09:45 Hillary Walsh

You know, it’s your face on the line.

00:09:47 Hillary Walsh

But I went into immigration, I think, because.

00:09:53 Hillary Walsh

I I could.

00:09:54 Hillary Walsh

Connect somehow with a a population who was.

00:10:00 Hillary Walsh

The expectation was too high, the punishment too severe, and I I think I could just really relate with that.

00:10:08 Hillary Walsh

And so over the years, especially through law school, I really latched onto it.

00:10:13 Hillary Walsh

And immigration law is.

00:10:14 Hillary Walsh

Also really complex.

00:10:16 Hillary Walsh

To have the emotional complexity of keeping a family together.

00:10:20 Hillary Walsh

Combined with some of the most complex.

00:10:23 Hillary Walsh

Areas of the law.

00:10:25 Hillary Walsh

And you marry those things together and you have immigration law and it’s a ton of fun.

00:10:31 Patrick Martin LCSW

Wow, sounds like it also sounds like a lot to take on.

00:10:35 Hillary Walsh

It is every day you hope that you are doing this the correct way.

00:10:39 Hillary Walsh

When President Trump was the president, we almost daily had a a new guideline issued or a new executive order and so sometimes you would go to court and you would hope that one of your.

00:10:54 Hillary Walsh

Other one of the other attorneys would go first because you didn’t know what the new change of the day was going to.

00:11:03 Hillary Walsh

Be but you.

00:11:03 Hillary Walsh

Were probably going to find out about it in real time because the immigration judges were briefed every morning on the new changes, which we of course didn’t have that offered.

00:11:13 Hillary Walsh

So you are playing with dumb.

00:11:15 Hillary Walsh

You’re playing with real lives and hoping that you don’t mess anything up every single day.

00:11:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

And that I always imagine, you know, when you’re an attorney, especially when you’re doing like the public defender, criminal attorney, family law, immigration.

00:11:32 Patrick Martin LCSW

The stress, the amount of responsibility on your shoulders, how do you, how do you manage that on? It’s kind of a side note, you know, just wondering about self-care and it’s a therapist to me.

00:11:43 Patrick Martin LCSW

But I’m wondering, like how do you, how do you manage that stress?

00:11:46 Patrick Martin LCSW

How do you?

00:11:46 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m sure by now you probably have some.

00:11:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Some pretty good understanding of what you were coping mechanisms are right.

00:11:54 Hillary Walsh

Well, I sometimes it’s trial and error.

00:11:54 Patrick Martin LCSW

What is that right?

00:11:56 Hillary Walsh

I can tell you, after years of diligent research, it’s not at the bottom of a wine bottle.

00:12:03 Patrick Martin LCSW

Well, that’s good. Which is.

00:12:05 Hillary Walsh

Easy, though, which is now.

00:12:06 Hillary Walsh

I can if, if anyone wondering, I can save you the trouble and thousands of dollars to let you know that alcohol is not going to make any of your problems go away and they’re just going to be there waiting for you.

00:12:19 Hillary Walsh

On the other side of it, I quit drinking about a year and some months ago.

00:12:24 Hillary Walsh

My husband and I both decided that alcohol we wanted to take a 90.

00:12:27 Hillary Walsh

Day break and then.

00:12:28 Hillary Walsh

We’ve just never.

00:12:28 Hillary Walsh

Gone back.

00:12:29 Hillary Walsh

And that was an area where I was really hiding out and trying to numb out because it was a very there’s a joke in in the legal field that people are renting space in your mind and that’s what they’re actually paying you for, for your legal services.

00:12:44 Hillary Walsh

Is to have that.

00:12:45 Hillary Walsh

Space and sometimes the crowd is quite large and you learn to love these clients.

00:12:53 Hillary Walsh

And for me, I really fall in love with their children.

00:12:56 Hillary Walsh

They bring their kids in and they’re my kids ages and you just connect with them on this.

00:13:01 Hillary Walsh

Whole other level, then just a mom to a mom.

00:13:04 Hillary Walsh

It’s like mom and now I.

00:13:06 Hillary Walsh

Also see your.

00:13:06 Hillary Walsh

Kid, and you are like, I am fighting for you.

00:13:10 Hillary Walsh

I’m not fighting for thousands of immigrants.

00:13:12 Hillary Walsh

The focus shifts to just this one person.

00:13:18 Hillary Walsh

I think that learning I I read the four agreements really early on.

00:13:23 Hillary Walsh

On yeah, it is a classic comic Don San.

00:13:26 Hillary Walsh

Miguel, I think, is his name.

00:13:28 Hillary Walsh

And really evaluating whether I had done my best was a lot of freedom from guilt because we lose an immigration law a lot.

00:13:39 Hillary Walsh

I think that, and it’s not because our clients don’t have rate cases, it’s because the.

00:13:48 Hillary Walsh

The deck is stacked against them.

00:13:50 Hillary Walsh

So it’s really.

00:13:50 Hillary Walsh

Hard to overcome that sometimes, and so we we lose a lot.

00:13:54 Hillary Walsh

Criminal defense attorneys do as well.

00:13:56 Hillary Walsh

It’s just part of the process.

00:13:58 Hillary Walsh

That doesn’t mean you don’t walk around.

00:14:00 Hillary Walsh

With a lot of guilt that what if I?

00:14:03 Hillary Walsh

Didn’t do enough.

00:14:05 Hillary Walsh

So it is.

00:14:05 Hillary Walsh

Really a constant evaluation of.

00:14:07 Hillary Walsh

Did I really do my best?

00:14:09 Hillary Walsh

And if you didn’t, it’s time to get.

00:14:10 Hillary Walsh

It’s time to get right with the Lord and and.

00:14:14 Hillary Walsh

Figure it out, you know.

00:14:14 Patrick Martin LCSW

Right now we’re not going to sleep at.

00:14:16 Hillary Walsh

Night, right?

00:14:17 Hillary Walsh

Otherwise you’re not going to sleep.

00:14:18 Hillary Walsh

At night so.

00:14:19 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, that has been the greatest freedom for me is to truly evaluate whether I’ve done my best.

00:14:25 Hillary Walsh

And now my business advisor was saying, I I think that your standard of excellence, it’s fine until it starts, it starts limiting you because.

00:14:34 Hillary Walsh

No one is ever going to meet that standard of excellence and.

00:14:38 Hillary Walsh

It is. It is.

00:14:39 Hillary Walsh

A constant inquiry am I doing my?

00:14:41 Hillary Walsh

Best is my standard of excellence too high?

00:14:44 Hillary Walsh

And and that has been.

00:14:46 Hillary Walsh

That’s a good self-care tool.

00:14:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Very well said.

00:14:50 Patrick Martin LCSW

Thank you so much for sharing that aspect of it.

00:14:51 Patrick Martin LCSW

And I now sometimes.

00:14:53 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s not something like you said, we lead with our struggles, right?

00:14:57 Patrick Martin LCSW

But the human aspect of being in a high, high demand position, right?

00:15:02 Patrick Martin LCSW

I recently had somebody on who was an expert in executive burnout, and it’s serious stuff, and he talked about his.

00:15:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

Battle with addiction.

00:15:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

Alcohol and depression and as a result of trying to.

00:15:14 Patrick Martin LCSW

Hold all the things right and then and then, you know, manage yourself care too.

00:15:19 Patrick Martin LCSW

And something usually gives right if we keep pushing.

00:15:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

So thank you for sharing.

00:15:22 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, I had health issues and all sorts of things crop up and you know, it was when you’re running a business, trying to, especially in the early stages of the pandemic, it was very stressful because all of us didn’t know how we were going to.

00:15:39 Hillary Walsh

And all of us were watching Tiger King and getting drunk at night I.

00:15:42 Hillary Walsh

Think that was like a?

00:15:43 Hillary Walsh

Huge part of the American fabric during that time.

00:15:47 Hillary Walsh

And then you have to show up to work the next day and try to be your best version of you.

00:15:52 Hillary Walsh

And and although although Tiger King was a time, I don’t think it brought out the best in anybody.

00:15:58 Hillary Walsh

So, uhm, it is it is a season of my life that I’m really happy that I experienced ‘cause.

00:16:04 Hillary Walsh

I can see other people going through it and I remember being in that position and it’s just sometimes you have to set down things that don’t serve you anymore.

00:16:13 Hillary Walsh

And for me that was alcohol.

00:16:15 Patrick Martin LCSW

Wow, a lot of self-exploration, right?

00:16:19 Patrick Martin LCSW

To figure out what those things are, the levers you can pull, even the seemingly small ones that really free up.

00:16:24 Patrick Martin LCSW

Room for personal development and stability, right?

00:16:28 Hillary Walsh

For sure.

00:16:29 Hillary Walsh

And breaking, I mean breaking the barrier of what you believe about yourself when you have an alcoholic parent and you see that behavior.

00:16:36 Hillary Walsh

It’s easy to also replicate.

00:16:39 Hillary Walsh

It but I really want to live a life.

00:16:41 Hillary Walsh

Life of greatness.

00:16:43 Hillary Walsh

And not that my parents didn’t, but they’re not the ceiling of what I can achieve and be.

00:16:47 Hillary Walsh

So I get to see them as a wonderful model and now I’m going to improve on that.

00:16:52 Hillary Walsh

I’m going to get to be the two point.

00:16:54 Hillary Walsh

Oh, version of that.

00:16:55 Patrick Martin LCSW

That’s a beautiful vision, you know, I love that, respecting where we come from, but understanding that we don’t necessary.

00:17:01 Patrick Martin LCSW

We have to just do what we know or what was modeled for us, that you can create your own journey, your own path, your own.

00:17:07 Patrick Martin LCSW

Why, right?

00:17:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

And my mom and.

00:17:09 Hillary Walsh

Dad have always believed that about us as kids and spoke that into us.

00:17:14 Hillary Walsh

And I’m very grateful for that that, you know, I didn’t.

00:17:17 Hillary Walsh

Have this as.

00:17:18 Hillary Walsh

A kid, but we’re going to make sure that you get.

00:17:20 Hillary Walsh

It and I didn’t have this.

00:17:21 Hillary Walsh

But you’re going to have it, I think, generationally.

00:17:24 Hillary Walsh

We all want to give the next generation that gift.

00:17:27 Hillary Walsh

But without a.

00:17:29 Hillary Walsh

View of competition my parents are very successful.

00:17:33 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, our success and our aspirations are just different.

00:17:40 Patrick Martin LCSW

And to have the freedom to to know that you have their support, you know, to to not necessarily just follow the same mold, but do your own thing.

00:17:48 Patrick Martin LCSW

And I think there’s a lot to be said for.

00:17:48 Speaker 3

Yeah, it’s been.

00:17:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

That that encourage autonomy, right?

00:17:51 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, it’s been fun because my parents.

00:17:54 Hillary Walsh

Are both I?

00:17:56 Hillary Walsh

Don’t know to the extent I could say fans of President Trump, but they’re both.

00:18:02 Hillary Walsh

They’re both very vocal supporters and voters for President Trump.

00:18:06 Hillary Walsh

And I I’m not.

00:18:09 Hillary Walsh

I I would probably be on the opposite end of that spectrum and not to make this political, but just simply to illustrate that even with that in mind that we can still be so supportive of each other.

00:18:21 Hillary Walsh

And my dad is my biggest fan I was on.

00:18:25 Hillary Walsh

LA Spectrum a few weeks ago and they gave me the questions they were going to ask.

00:18:29 Hillary Walsh

In advance, and it was a.

00:18:31 Hillary Walsh

There was a hard question in there, and I’m always mindful that I’m not speaking.

00:18:35 Hillary Walsh

I I can speak to a person who’s already an immigrant advocate and we’re going to be preaching to the choir.

00:18:42 Hillary Walsh

They’re not the.

00:18:42 Hillary Walsh

Person I need to just.

00:18:44 Hillary Walsh

Do essentially a drip campaign of these are human beings, these are not the masses.

00:18:50 Hillary Walsh

This is war in life, one person and that’s that kid impacts my kid, impacts your kids, impacts my country like we are all related.

00:18:59 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, so I reached out to my dad.

00:19:02 Hillary Walsh

I said.

00:19:02 Hillary Walsh

Dad, they’re going to ask me this question.

00:19:03 Hillary Walsh

What do I say?

00:19:05 Hillary Walsh

And his response was so full of empathy and love and.

00:19:11 Hillary Walsh

I mean and I think that that being able to have that open dialogue across party lines, I can, I can get to do that in my family.

00:19:19 Hillary Walsh

I know we can do that as a country, so there is a lot of freedom in that.

00:19:23 Hillary Walsh

It is the perfect word for it.

00:19:26 Patrick Martin LCSW

I love the message of hope and inclusiveness, right?

00:19:29 Patrick Martin LCSW

And to remember that, yes, these causes are not just causes.

00:19:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

They’re not just.

00:19:35 Patrick Martin LCSW

Uh, model of philosophy, right?

00:19:39 Patrick Martin LCSW

Or politics?

00:19:40 Patrick Martin LCSW

These are people.

00:19:41 Patrick Martin LCSW

Right.

00:19:42 Patrick Martin LCSW

And you, you’re the trenches with them and you see, you know how decisions made at the top effect the individual, right?

00:19:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Then I’m glad that you you’re reminding us all of that.

00:19:53 Patrick Martin LCSW

That’s very important.

00:19:54 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, we have so much in common.

00:19:54 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s at the core of your work.

00:19:56 Speaker 3

Right. Yeah.

00:19:56 Hillary Walsh

We have so much in common.

00:19:59 Hillary Walsh

It’s uhm, it’s sad to me that we live in a time where the difference is.

00:20:06 Hillary Walsh

You are disgusting.

00:20:10 Hillary Walsh

There’s a I have 4 little kids and there’s an Amy Poehler movie that’s a cartoon inside out.

00:20:16 Hillary Walsh

I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but you should.

00:20:18 Patrick Martin LCSW

I don’t think so.

00:20:19 Hillary Walsh

Oh, you will love it.

00:20:20 Hillary Walsh

You will love it in in your field.

00:20:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

Taking notes now.

00:20:23 Hillary Walsh

Yes, you have to.

00:20:24 Hillary Walsh

See it and uhm.

00:20:27 Hillary Walsh

It’s precious, but it is of course for kids, but it’s a way for us to.

00:20:30 Hillary Walsh

Understand the different ways that we think about things.

00:20:33 Hillary Walsh

And of course Amy Poehler is very clever and.

00:20:36 Hillary Walsh

I just love her.

00:20:40 Hillary Walsh

The emotions that we have in the way that we view things.

00:20:45 Hillary Walsh

We get to choose.

00:20:46 Hillary Walsh

How we see things and we can see them with joy and we can see them with and these are the different people who are, in this little girl’s mind, helping control.

00:20:55 Patrick Martin LCSW

Been since I’ve seen snatches and grabs of it.

00:20:57 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s like the core emotions, the core memories, the feelings, and everything serves a purpose, right?

00:21:00 Hillary Walsh

Memories, yes.

00:21:01 Hillary Walsh

My favorite is when there’s the I I lost my train of thought and a train goes through and like, it just goes off into nowhere.

00:21:08 Hillary Walsh

And it’s like I can completely relate.

00:21:09 Hillary Walsh

And I don’t know if it’s like, yeah, then the train comes back on the tracks and it is a really.

00:21:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

Can’t we go?

00:21:14 Hillary Walsh

Cute way to illustrate.

00:21:16 Hillary Walsh

What goes on in our mind and how that?

00:21:18 Hillary Walsh

Manifests in our body, but uhm, I wish that we could get to a place where differences actually, because I believe this is what makes us as a country so great is that I’ve lived in very homogeneous countries and seeing what it’s like.

00:21:34 Hillary Walsh

Just to be sort.

00:21:35 Hillary Walsh

Of different I remember going for a jog.

00:21:38 Hillary Walsh

When we were stationed in Korea.

00:21:39 Hillary Walsh

My husband’s in the air.

00:21:40 Hillary Walsh

Force and I’m a white lady with dark.

00:21:44 Hillary Walsh

At the time I had very dark long brown hair and I had on a cap in sunglasses, so in my mind I look Korean.

00:21:54 Hillary Walsh

Apparently I turn really pink when I jog and so I give myself away as not being all of beautiful olive toned skin.

00:22:01 Hillary Walsh

And people stare.

00:22:04 Hillary Walsh

I remember being stared at as I’m on this jog, thinking why are people staring at me and.

00:22:10 Hillary Walsh

It’s because I realize.

00:22:11 Hillary Walsh

There’s no amount of blending in you can do in a country that is very, very homogeneous, like Korea or when we visited India, it was the same thing and you’re.

00:22:22 Hillary Walsh

In the United States, you can open your mouth and talk and have an accent.

00:22:27 Hillary Walsh

Well, maybe not even speak English and you don’t know if you were.

00:22:30 Hillary Walsh

Born and raised here.

00:22:31 Hillary Walsh

And those are.

00:22:32 Hillary Walsh

The things that inject innovation into our country and I love the different ideas or what makes us great.

00:22:41 Hillary Walsh

Why are we so disgusted by them?

00:22:42 Hillary Walsh

As a society right now.

00:22:42 Patrick Martin LCSW

Boom. How is husband?

00:22:45 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.

00:22:47 Hillary Walsh

You got nothing to him, so box.

00:22:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, no, I love it, though.

00:22:50 Patrick Martin LCSW

I love it because that speaks to your why, right?

00:22:52 Patrick Martin LCSW

And what inspires you and the work, the amazing work that you do.

00:22:57 Patrick Martin LCSW

And I’m wondering what what turning point occurred because you’ve been an immigration attorney now for 1010 years, but you’ve been a CEO.

00:23:07 Patrick Martin LCSW

Founder of your own firm, if you were right.

00:23:11 Speaker 3

Well, uh.

00:23:11 Patrick Martin LCSW

New Frontiers, new frontier.

00:23:13 Hillary Walsh

New Frontier immigration law, that’s.

00:23:13 Speaker 3

Yes, is it?

00:23:14 Patrick Martin LCSW

Here integration law and that’s new ISH, right 2019?

00:23:19 Hillary Walsh

2019.

00:23:20 Patrick Martin LCSW

So what? What?

00:23:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

That made you leave maybe the the standard lifestyle of being an immigration attorney and starting your own firm.

00:23:30 Patrick Martin LCSW

What happened there?

00:23:33 Hillary Walsh

Well, I have like a couple snapshots of memories to share with you that immediately like, flood my mind.

00:23:38 Hillary Walsh

The first is when I was in law school, I represented a young woman.

00:23:41 Hillary Walsh

I went to law school in Las Vegas and my I was working in the immigration clinic as a student attorney.

00:23:50 Hillary Walsh

And my very first case that I worked on was a 14 year old German girl who’d been kidnapped and prostituted on this.

00:23:57 Hillary Walsh

Trip, and so we were able to get a TV show, which is for trafficking victims.

00:24:02 Hillary Walsh

For her. Her.

00:24:03 Hillary Walsh

Mom and her brother, who were all undocumented.

00:24:05 Hillary Walsh

In the US.

00:24:07 Hillary Walsh

That was a huge, huge experience for me because I was working with a young girl who was my age when I went through my big, traumatic experience.

00:24:17 Hillary Walsh

Different experiences of course, but to get to love and heal this other young person was very cathartic for me as well.

00:24:27 Hillary Walsh

Brad I graduated in 2012, which was a very difficult time for lawyers to get jobs because the economy was terrible.

00:24:34 Hillary Walsh

Too many lawyers, not enough jobs.

00:24:36 Hillary Walsh

I was so fortunate to get a job at a commercial litigation boutique firm in Las Vegas.

00:24:44 Hillary Walsh

I I still think that they didn’t quite realize what my resume was ’cause I don’t know how I got that job that I did.

00:24:50 Hillary Walsh

And I did that job for about 14 months and I learned to be a very good writer while I was at that job that.

00:24:55 Hillary Walsh

Was my primary.

00:24:56 Hillary Walsh

Role was just to kind of lined.

00:24:58 Hillary Walsh

Out legal writing.

00:25:01 Hillary Walsh

But while I was on maternity leave, I read Sheryl Sandberg’s lean in and a voice within me like that guiding light.

00:25:12 Hillary Walsh

Was was reminding me that I was supposed to be an immigration attorney.

00:25:18 Hillary Walsh

I had made this commitment to myself and I had gotten off track because I had really wanted a job right out of law school.

00:25:26 Hillary Walsh

So I committed to do a couple of asylum cases pro bono in the next six months.

00:25:33 Hillary Walsh

My husband called within the next 4 weeks and let me know.

00:25:37 Hillary Walsh

Hey babe, I’m in Afghanistan, you’re home with twins who you’re nursing and taking care of, and you’re working however many hours a week.

00:25:46 Hillary Walsh

I just got orders.

00:25:47 Hillary Walsh

We’re moving to Korea.

00:25:48 Hillary Walsh

Isn’t that so exciting?

00:25:51 Hillary Walsh

But it really.

00:25:52 Hillary Walsh

Was because I couldn’t find a job in Korea, I could not find a job and this was.

00:25:56 Hillary Walsh

In 2014, so it was before.

00:26:00 Hillary Walsh

Telework was really common, like it is today where it’s absolutely very common for people to work from around the.

00:26:07 Hillary Walsh

I couldn’t get a job in Korea and couldn’t find anyone who would let me do even free work for them in the United States because they didn’t want they only wanted ghostwriters.

00:26:17 Hillary Walsh

And I’m a person of a little bit of ego, and I’m running my name on the brief.

00:26:22 Hillary Walsh

I had written all these briefs when I was a grunt attorney, and my name was never on the brief I wanted.

00:26:28 Hillary Walsh

If I’m going to do this work for free, I want some of the I want to have my name and sign my name to this paper in one organization out of all the nonprofits that I reached out to here in Arizona, the Florence project.

00:26:42 Hillary Walsh

Alright, you don’t have any experience, but we have more work than we can handle.

00:26:46 Hillary Walsh

We will mentor you on doing some appeals work.

00:26:50 Hillary Walsh

And so I began doing Immigration Appeals from Korea for people detained here in Arizona.

00:26:57 Hillary Walsh

I moved back five years later after having this long term relationship with this nonprofit, and I couldn’t get a job here in Arizona because I don’t speak Spanish.

00:27:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

Oh, wow.

00:27:09 Hillary Walsh

No one wanted to hire an experienced immigration lawyer.

00:27:13 Patrick Martin LCSW

But certainly I thought by that point, after going to Korea for five years, getting the experience and coming back, you wouldn’t have the same problem with employment, right?

00:27:16 Hillary Walsh

Really, folks?

00:27:21 Hillary Walsh

Which one would think, but it was again the greatest gift.

00:27:25 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, because I decided hey.

00:27:28 Hillary Walsh

I I don’t want to go work at another civil litigation firm.

00:27:32 Hillary Walsh

I mean, the things that I’m qualified to do in an English-speaking capacity I’m not interested in.

00:27:38 Hillary Walsh

And I had thought for a while I wanted to do criminal defense.

00:27:41 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, but it just wasn’t, you know?

00:27:45 Hillary Walsh

You see what you’re supposed to see when you’re supposed to see it?

00:27:50 Hillary Walsh

I was connected with a woman who owned her own immigration firm and I needed her help on a case to come.

00:27:57 Hillary Walsh

She was licensed in a state that I needed.

00:27:59 Hillary Walsh

I needed an attorney to help me in.

00:28:01 Hillary Walsh

For a pro.

00:28:02 Hillary Walsh

Bono client and she said, you know.

00:28:05 Hillary Walsh

You should consider opening your own firm.

00:28:08 Hillary Walsh

If you can’t get a job where someone going to pay you to do this, maybe you should just open your own firm.

00:28:13 Hillary Walsh

And here we are all these years later, and that’s a light, that’s a core memory and it really changed my life.

00:28:15 Patrick Martin LCSW

My ball moment, yeah.

00:28:22 Hillary Walsh

And she actually lives here in Phoenix now, and it’s wonderful to connect with her.

00:28:26 Hillary Walsh

And the universe is so creative.

00:28:29 Patrick Martin LCSW

Uh, it’s easy to get stuck in our own box, right?

00:28:32 Patrick Martin LCSW

Mental box as far as the options that we see, but just a friend.

00:28:38 Patrick Martin LCSW

To give you permission to think outside the box.

00:28:41 Hillary Walsh

Think outside the box, and I asked other immigration lawyers who had successful firms and said young, thinking about opening a firm here in Phoenix.

00:28:43 Patrick Martin LCSW

Bet. Bet on yourself, right?

00:28:53 Hillary Walsh

I don’t know anyone here at all.

00:28:56 Hillary Walsh

We just got stationed here.

00:28:58 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, I don’t have a single client here.

00:29:01 Hillary Walsh

And I also don’t speak Spanish.

00:29:03 Hillary Walsh

Do you think this is a good idea and?

00:29:06 Hillary Walsh

But a lot of voices said this.

00:29:08 Hillary Walsh

Is a bad idea.

00:29:08 Hillary Walsh

I just don’t think it’s going to work.

00:29:11 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, it was.

00:29:12 Hillary Walsh

It’s great that my parents raised me to be competitive, because I thought, I’m I’m just going to do it anyway and we’ll find a way.

00:29:20 Patrick Martin LCSW

And you say that very kind of flippantly, oh, I just started a business or for anybody who’s ever dipped their toe and starting a business knows it’s not as simple as that and competitive, yes, you are, because I also know.

00:29:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

By reading your bio that you have doubled your business every year since you started and no small, small feat, I mean we’re talking about business that’s in the 1,000,000, right?

00:29:46 Patrick Martin LCSW

10 million, yeah.

00:29:48 Hillary Walsh

We’ll do probably 10 million next.

00:29:49 Hillary Walsh

Year we’re going to.

00:29:50 Hillary Walsh

We’re aiming to hit 6 this year.

00:29:52 Patrick Martin LCSW

So you’re very humble.

00:29:55 Hillary Walsh

Oh well, I mean, I think that if I can do it, I truly believe that if we give value.

00:29:56 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, you’re not. Yeah.

00:30:00 Hillary Walsh

And I believe that if our goal is to add more life and more good to the universe and.

00:30:06 Hillary Walsh

I think that.

00:30:07 Hillary Walsh

I mean, I hope that I live to be an old lady, but I’m not going to count on that, so I might as well just do it.

00:30:13 Hillary Walsh

Right now, I’ve.

00:30:13 Hillary Walsh

Got the energy for it, I think.

00:30:16 Hillary Walsh

That the universe will reward the desire to.

00:30:20 Hillary Walsh

Give and give and.

00:30:21 Hillary Walsh

Give and that’s.

00:30:22 Hillary Walsh

What I believe is I have been blessed with.

00:30:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

My favorite, uh, coping skill if you were, is to study successful people deconstructions on them.

00:30:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

And something I hear over and over again as a root of success from what I’ve seen, is to serve 1st.

00:30:40 Patrick Martin LCSW

And that certainly seems to be your mindset is that.

00:30:43 Hillary Walsh

Right.

00:30:43 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, I I absolutely believe that.

00:30:46 Hillary Walsh

I think that’s just a law of the universe.

00:30:51 Hillary Walsh

Anytime you see anyone acting selfishly.

00:30:55 Hillary Walsh

Your that success can only live for so long without some type of huge disruption and of course success or whatever I think is, you know, it depends on who you talk to, what success is.

00:31:08 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, I think that if we serve, it gives without fear.

00:31:16 Hillary Walsh

That if we give too much, no one.

00:31:18 Hillary Walsh

Will come by.

00:31:23 Hillary Walsh

Then that is the absolute ultimate trust giver, and that’s how we run our company.

00:31:30 Patrick Martin LCSW

Wow, well, she certainly seems to be making quite the impact.

00:31:35 Hillary Walsh

We have an amazing UM, we have an amazing population here in Arizona.

00:31:41 Hillary Walsh

UM, we’re helping people and lots of states.

00:31:44 Hillary Walsh

But of course our main focus is here in Arizona right now and.

00:31:48 Hillary Walsh

You know, it never gets old watching someone who is probably my.

00:31:54 Hillary Walsh

Dad’s age, I’ll.

00:31:55 Hillary Walsh

Get emotional. Just mentioning it.

00:31:57 Hillary Walsh

And they get this. They open their envelope from the US Postal Service since this little envelope with the window, and they’ve seen the picture of this online where other people are holding it up and the new inside is their work permit.

00:32:12 Hillary Walsh

Open it and they look at it and just disbelief washes over them and they’re holding this thing that I have taken for granted every day in my life.

00:32:22 Hillary Walsh

And you get to watch them truly unwrap their future.

00:32:27 Hillary Walsh

Their life will never be the same now, in the best of ways, and I got to be one tiny.

00:32:32 Hillary Walsh

Part of that.

00:32:33 Hillary Walsh

I’ll live forever now.

00:32:35 Hillary Walsh

Like my my life will never end because I was like a fragment.

00:32:41 Hillary Walsh

In their journey and now their kids lives will be different and so on.

00:32:45 Hillary Walsh

It’s pretty amazing.

00:32:46 Patrick Martin LCSW

Wow, the the reward, right?

00:32:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’ve seen the the wins, the small ones, the big ones, right?

00:32:53 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, the.

00:32:53 Patrick Martin LCSW

Making a difference, I think that’s.

00:32:55 Patrick Martin LCSW

But everyone really wants it.

00:32:57 Patrick Martin LCSW

Records know that their life make means and makes a difference, right?

00:33:00 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, we all have this search for significance, yeah.

00:33:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

For the better to leave this world better than we found it.

00:33:07 Patrick Martin LCSW

And that didn’t.

00:33:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

That wouldn’t have.

00:33:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

Happened if you hadn’t.

00:33:13 Patrick Martin LCSW

If you had settled for the status quo, right, and if you hadn’t challenged yourself to follow your passions, that intervoice right.

00:33:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, how you doing?

00:33:22 Hillary Walsh

Well, even last week, I mean, I wanted to pack it up and let’s just be a.

00:33:25 Hillary Walsh

Small shop? Uhm.

00:33:28 Hillary Walsh

What have I gotten myself into?

00:33:30 Hillary Walsh

I I feel like I’m not the right leader for this, you know?

00:33:34 Hillary Walsh

We’ve made a mess.

00:33:35 Hillary Walsh

We’re scaling too fast, we’re helping too many people, and maybe we’re not doing it to.

00:33:40 Hillary Walsh

The level of service.

00:33:41 Hillary Walsh

That we had intended and, you know, you have this conversation and later that night.

00:33:47 Hillary Walsh

One of my associates quit because she said I’m never going to be enough.

00:33:51 Hillary Walsh

I am watching you, getting Hillary in a zoom, get emotional, saying these things, like what I literally just said to you, processing it outwardly.

00:33:59 Hillary Walsh

And I’m like I do not know if.

00:34:01 Hillary Walsh

I can do.

00:34:01 Hillary Walsh

This and I don’t know if I’m the right person.

00:34:05 Hillary Walsh

To do this.

00:34:06 Hillary Walsh

What if I’m making a mistake and kind of hourly processing that and then calling other people?

00:34:13 Hillary Walsh

I can’t do this alone.

00:34:14 Hillary Walsh

I’m we have to have I.

00:34:18 Hillary Walsh

I also I often talk about how we’re.

00:34:20 Hillary Walsh

Like an NBA team.

00:34:23 Hillary Walsh

And I don’t want to not get injured.

00:34:26 Hillary Walsh

It’s not.

00:34:26 Hillary Walsh

I don’t want to collect a big paycheck and not get injured.

00:34:29 Hillary Walsh

I want to win the finals and that means we have to be ruthless in in staying aligned with our vision.

00:34:37 Hillary Walsh

And that person quit that night, she said.

00:34:40 Hillary Walsh

I am not going to be what you need me to be, and that hurts because I love that person.

00:34:47 Hillary Walsh

At at the end of the day, one knows themselves the best and if they can’t see themselves going to the finals, we have to vacate that seat and fill it with someone who will.

00:35:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

And that’s an active respect and love to knowing like if you can, if you can meet the demands of the.

00:35:00 Hillary Walsh

But it is, yeah, it is.

00:35:04 Patrick Martin LCSW

Mission or not right?

00:35:05 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, it is.

00:35:07 Hillary Walsh

It really is.

00:35:08 Hillary Walsh

But it is not.

00:35:10 Hillary Walsh

It is not always fun.

00:35:14 Hillary Walsh

It this is not always fun.

00:35:16 Patrick Martin LCSW

No, no, I I appreciate you saying that because I yes, yes.

00:35:17 Hillary Walsh

So when, when you get to see.

00:35:18 Hillary Walsh

There, people open their green card.

00:35:21 Hillary Walsh

That’s your moment.

00:35:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

Right.

00:35:24 Patrick Martin LCSW

But everything that leads up to that point, all the tough decisions and I’m sure I was going to ask you how you, how you overcame?

00:35:32 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m sure some of the numerous challenges you’ve come across, I imagine one is staffing when you’re starting to a firm like this, how did you, how did you go about that?

00:35:41 Hillary Walsh

Well, at first I I pretended to be a.

00:35:45 Hillary Walsh

Receptionist on the phone.

00:35:46 Hillary Walsh

I had an iPhone.

00:35:49 Hillary Walsh

I yeah, you know, you do what?

00:35:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Scrappy I like it.

00:35:51 Hillary Walsh

You gotta do hi, this is you know.

00:35:53 Hillary Walsh

At the time it was the.

00:35:53 Hillary Walsh

Law Office of Hillary Gaston Walsh.

00:35:56 Hillary Walsh

Sounds fancy. It’s not practical at all, and yes, no problem, yes, it’s $50.00 to talk to the lawyer you know you want paid by cash or card and you sell your consultation and then after they book it, then you meet with them and you would get the sounds so similar to your receptionist.

00:36:16 Hillary Walsh

I hear that.

00:36:17 Hillary Walsh

All the time I hear that.

00:36:18 Hillary Walsh

All of us.

00:36:19 Hillary Walsh

Time I had one of my my kids godmother do an interview for my very first employee because I had never interviewed anyone before and I see the good in everybody so everyone has potential to be amazing.

00:36:32 Hillary Walsh

So I needed an objective person.

00:36:34 Hillary Walsh

She interviewed her and she’s still with me.

00:36:37 Hillary Walsh

She’s been lost, Romero and working part time.

00:36:39 Hillary Walsh

At the firm almost four years later, and now I’ve got the godmother working for me or the firm as well, so it’s it’s been amazing.

00:36:47 Patrick Martin LCSW

Family affair.

00:36:49 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, it really has been amazing too.

00:36:52 Hillary Walsh

To grow a team of people who are aligned with what we’re doing.

00:36:59 Hillary Walsh

But the people component of it is complicated because we have our own.

00:37:05 Hillary Walsh

I have my own issues with relationships that I bring to a feedback session.

00:37:10 Hillary Walsh

And constantly.

00:37:12 Hillary Walsh

And then I have hormones.

00:37:12 Hillary Walsh

That I’m also dealing with.

00:37:14 Hillary Walsh

Because while men also have hormones, they go through that cycle in 24 hours and I get to drag that out over.

00:37:21 Hillary Walsh

The course of four weeks.

00:37:23 Hillary Walsh

Different situation and trying to be very introspective and mindful that.

00:37:23 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yes, yes, very different. Yeah.

00:37:28 Hillary Walsh

The set of hormones I have right now may not be the best thing for the leader to be in a feedback session right now. So I need a buffer or I need to table this and have this self-control.

00:37:39 Hillary Walsh

You table this until I’m in a better mental state and.

00:37:44 Hillary Walsh

All of that, all of that takes a.

00:37:46 Hillary Walsh

Lot of.

00:37:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

A lot of honesty with yourself, a lot of communication, transparency.

00:37:55 Hillary Walsh

Through team hoping you’re not screwing it up.

00:37:57 Hillary Walsh

It’s like parenting.

00:37:59 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, yeah.

00:38:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m just thinking about, you know, the all the impostor syndrome that.

00:38:02 Patrick Martin LCSW

Would come up and then you know as as you’re venturing out and do it, you know creating this, this business for yourself is firm.

00:38:11 Patrick Martin LCSW

All the challenges, right? And.

00:38:13 Patrick Martin LCSW

How you’re addressing that impostor syndrome.

00:38:16 Patrick Martin LCSW

But that sounds like like the the crux of it right there is the the introspection, the self-honesty and creating systems.

00:38:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

To to, you know buffer that, right?

00:38:28 Hillary Walsh

Huh, yeah.

00:38:29 Patrick Martin LCSW

You have the feedback sessions get, you know, making sure that that line of communication is open, that you’re approachable, right?

00:38:35 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, and that.

00:38:37 Hillary Walsh

For me, it’s so rarely about what I say, but the intention I go into a meeting with how I want them to feel afterward, and I can lead with love and say exactly what I need to say.

00:38:49 Hillary Walsh

And they know because of months or weeks or even hours.

00:38:53 Hillary Walsh

Of experience with me, that I’m not saying.

00:38:55 Hillary Walsh

This to cut you down.

00:38:57 Hillary Walsh

I’m saying this because I truly want you to rise and.

00:39:03 Hillary Walsh

If someone can.

00:39:04 Hillary Walsh

Feel that you can get a lot of work done real fast.

00:39:09 Speaker 3

Right.

00:39:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

That, I mean, that’s great, yeah, just making sure that everybody feels.

00:39:15 Patrick Martin LCSW

Appreciated, respected, encouraged.

00:39:18 Patrick Martin LCSW

Because you have a mission.

00:39:19 Patrick Martin LCSW

The mission is to to help these people, right?

00:39:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

This population, these people who are struggling and you know from your whole history and experience, you must have a wealth of information about what the particular challenges are.

00:39:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

You mentioned asylum cases.

00:39:37 Patrick Martin LCSW

Uhm, work visas, you know, citizenship status?

00:39:41 Patrick Martin LCSW

What have you found to be some of the most common challenges when people in immigration law, for example?

00:39:50 Hillary Walsh

I think the belief that I am worthy of this benefit, people will come in and have a consultation with us.

00:39:59 Hillary Walsh

We let them know. Congratulations, we we see a path for you to either get your work permit, your Social Security number, your driver’s license, your Green card, and then maybe someday, your citizenship.

00:40:09 Hillary Walsh

This will get you an opportunity to leave the country and come back with permission.

00:40:13 Hillary Walsh

It’s safe for you to go see Mom in Mexico and come back to your family here in.

00:40:19 Hillary Walsh

The US.

00:40:20 Hillary Walsh

And I think there is a.

00:40:24 Hillary Walsh

There is a belief system of I don’t know if it’s too good to be true or I don’t trust you.

00:40:29 Hillary Walsh

This seems too easy.

00:40:32 Hillary Walsh

But from me, I believe at the core of it is once someone decides that they are worthy of it, that they deserve this.

00:40:39 Hillary Walsh

And it’s one thing to say it and it’s another thing to actually do it.

00:40:43 Hillary Walsh

Actually take the steps forward and say I’m claiming this, this is mine, this is the life I’m going to have.

00:40:49 Hillary Walsh

Once that happens, everything aligns and we make it happen.

00:40:54 Hillary Walsh

But if someone is stuck and they just can’t see themselves having the green card or stepping into this new life and they’re they’re so afraid.

00:41:07 Hillary Walsh

I think that is the.

00:41:08 Hillary Walsh

Hardest that’s the hardest one to overcome because that’s an inside job and we can love.

00:41:15 Hillary Walsh

People through that but.

00:41:16 Hillary Walsh

It really is an inside job.

00:41:19 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, I bet.

00:41:21 Patrick Martin LCSW

Well, sounds like fantastic work you’re doing.

00:41:24 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’m wondering if we have any words of wisdom for anyone who might be listening, if they have a loved one or a family member who.

00:41:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

Be struggling with immigration and barriers to citizenship or anything in that realm.

00:41:39 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know what were some some words of wisdom that you would encourage?

00:41:43 Patrick Martin LCSW

People to kind of grab hold of any actionable tips or tools resources.

00:41:50 Hillary Walsh

I think it’s important for us to harken back to what our vision was for our life before we were told no.

00:41:58 Hillary Walsh

A few weeks ago I was in our way for an interview and.

00:42:02 Hillary Walsh

Who was visiting?

00:42:03 Hillary Walsh

With the woman who coordinated everything, she’s like the.

00:42:07 Hillary Walsh

You know, the the Backstage coordinator, really the the master behind the scenes. And she shared that her parents are undocumented Mexicans living in LA, and they’ve been in LA for 30 or 40 years.

00:42:21 Hillary Walsh

Neither of them have status and she’s the oldest and she was born here, so she’s a citizen.

00:42:27 Hillary Walsh

And I said, you know, we have, we help people in your parents exact situation all the time.

00:42:35 Hillary Walsh

And I would love, I would be honored to study you know whatever value I can give you to kind of help ‘cause.

00:42:43 Hillary Walsh

I could see that there was this disbelief because they’ve talked to other people and they’ve heard from friends and the community is very tight knit in terms of sharing.

00:42:52 Hillary Walsh

This is the way that we’ve done XY or Z to get our papers.

00:42:58 Hillary Walsh

I I could not Pierce her, and this is an educated, highly effective, very confident woman.

00:43:06 Hillary Walsh

Could not convince her.

00:43:08 Hillary Walsh

And I I didn’t spend, you know, sitting there trying to convince her that no, no, you don’t understand, that there was just this hardened bubble around her of disbelief that anything.

00:43:18 Hillary Walsh

To be done, it’s like, well, you know, we’re working with a nonprofit to to do whatever it is that we’re trying to do.

00:43:26 Hillary Walsh

And I think if we get really clear on what our vision was for our life, so this has to be each of us has a different vision for our life and I see in pictures.

00:43:35 Hillary Walsh

I think we all do.

00:43:36 Hillary Walsh

You would know better.

00:43:37 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yes, indeed yes.

00:43:37 Hillary Walsh

Than me, we all see in pictures, right?

00:43:40 Hillary Walsh

But the movie I play in my mind when I get really discouraged or I start to believe that this is.

00:43:46 Hillary Walsh

Just the way.

00:43:47 Hillary Walsh

That it is.

00:43:48 Hillary Walsh

I have to go back to the movie in my mind.

00:43:50 Hillary Walsh

And it’s it’s not that there has to be another way.

00:43:55 Hillary Walsh

And so for this young woman, I mean, she’s young compared to me, I think probably 28 years old.

00:44:02 Hillary Walsh

She she needs to go back in her minds to the vision of what she has for her parents, and if she can see her parents with her.

00:44:09 Hillary Walsh

Maybe they’re driving across the border into Tijuana.

00:44:13 Hillary Walsh

Going on a road trip to eat some really good food?

00:44:17 Hillary Walsh

Maybe go see family if that’s been the vision for her life.

00:44:21 Hillary Walsh

Then when when opportunity knocks at your door, you’ll listen a little closer.

00:44:25 Hillary Walsh

But the more we start to.

00:44:27 Hillary Walsh

Believe the lie that.

00:44:29 Hillary Walsh

This is not going to happen for me or my family.

00:44:32 Hillary Walsh

The harder opportunity has to knock because we’ve lost sight of our vision.

00:44:37 Hillary Walsh

I think that’s true whether it’s for your papers or for me.

00:44:40 Hillary Walsh

A long time it took, I had.

00:44:41 Hillary Walsh

It took eight years to get pregnant.

00:44:43 Hillary Walsh

And you just start to believe that this isn’t going to.

00:44:46 Hillary Walsh

Happen for me? Uhm.

00:44:49 Hillary Walsh

But I don’t believe.

00:44:50 Hillary Walsh

That I really believe that there the opportunity is still there if you want it to be there.

00:44:56 Hillary Walsh

So that’s what I would share with people, is to keep that vision in your mind.

00:45:00 Hillary Walsh

The universe will answer.

00:45:03 Hillary Walsh

If you just hold tight to it.

00:45:05 Patrick Martin LCSW

You speak from lived experience, right?

00:45:07 Patrick Martin LCSW

Mother of four now, right?

00:45:09 Hillary Walsh

Yes, I joked that we over prayed.

00:45:12 Hillary Walsh

I had four kids in four years, so yeah, I started with twins.

00:45:13 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, twins, right?

00:45:15 Patrick Martin LCSW

The quote you asked us.

00:45:16 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, four kids in four years of the wild ride.

00:45:19 Patrick Martin LCSW

That’s fantastic.

00:45:21 Patrick Martin LCSW

But yes, I think you’re, I mean like those questions we hear, you know, if you think you can, you’re right, you think you can’t, you’re right.

00:45:28 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know, you can see it, you can do it, right?

00:45:31 Patrick Martin LCSW

But I think there is a lot to be said as a therapist.

00:45:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

There’s so much truth to, you know, what we call limiting beliefs.

00:45:38 Patrick Martin LCSW

And assuming that the narrative we’ve created in our head is.

00:45:43 Patrick Martin LCSW

The only narrative that’s possible.

00:45:46 Hillary Walsh

Right. It keeps us safe.

00:45:48 Hillary Walsh

But narrative for me is almost the same as alcohol, where it keeps you safe or from something for some amount of time until you decide this is no longer serving me.

00:46:00 Hillary Walsh

I I actually need to disrupt what I thought was keeping me safe did at some point, but now I get to disr.

00:46:07

To that.

00:46:08 Hillary Walsh

By stopping drinking or taking on this new healthier lifestyle, or surrounding myself with people who are not negative or stopping looking at the news.

00:46:17 Hillary Walsh

The news is, you know, making my making me scared.

00:46:18 Speaker 3

Mira. Mira.

00:46:20 Hillary Walsh

And it’s re traumatizing me.

00:46:21 Hillary Walsh

And and all of those things have kept us safe.

00:46:26 Hillary Walsh

But maybe they don’t serve us.

00:46:28 Patrick Martin LCSW

So the stimuli that we choose to ingest, right.

00:46:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

Continues to feed whatever.

00:46:36 Patrick Martin LCSW

Train of thought or narrative that we’re holding onto another theme I I keep hearing you bringing up in your personal development.

00:46:42 Patrick Martin LCSW

Your journey is that you’re doing an audit.

00:46:45 Patrick Martin LCSW

Sounds like you did an audit on yourself and you you know you’re finding out whether it’s the alcohol or the news or the negative stimuli.

00:46:52 Patrick Martin LCSW

Whatever it is you’re, you’re paying attention to what is.

00:46:56 Patrick Martin LCSW

Contributing to your thought process, and if it’s not helping you move toward your goals, then maybe that’s not nice.

00:47:04 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, it’s you have to put it, yeah.

00:47:06 Hillary Walsh

You really have to put certain things down from quitting.

00:47:11 Hillary Walsh

Is a word I hate.

00:47:14 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, sometimes it’s just surrender.

00:47:17 Patrick Martin LCSW

Oh, I like that. Yeah.

00:47:20 Patrick Martin LCSW

I like that.

00:47:21 Patrick Martin LCSW

Thank you for that.

00:47:23 Patrick Martin LCSW

So much we could continue to unpack.

00:47:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

I know you’re a busy, busy lady.

00:47:27 Hillary Walsh

I hope that I’m not.

00:47:28 Hillary Walsh

I wonder if in your like in your actual licensed mind your ’cause, you know?

00:47:34 Hillary Walsh

You start living life and then you know that there’s clinical work and there’s there’s data, and you hope that what your life experiences and what you’ve chosen or I’ve chosen to believe about my life, I hope that it aligns with science, I think.

00:47:48 Hillary Walsh

That it does.

00:47:49 Patrick Martin LCSW

Oh, absolutely.

00:47:49 Hillary Walsh

But there’s only one way to find out.

00:47:51 Hillary Walsh

I guess I.

00:47:52 Hillary Walsh

Said with life.

00:47:53 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yes, yes, I I try not to think rigid in terms of how, you know, we’re just people.

00:47:59 Patrick Martin LCSW

We’re just people and problems are not new in the way, you know, the way that we.

00:48:04 Patrick Martin LCSW

Encounter life and social problems and our emotions and it’s the same.

00:48:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s always been nothing new under the sun, right?

00:48:11 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know way to you read any any book you know and you know from whatever time period around wisdom and practical knowledge.

00:48:19 Patrick Martin LCSW

And you’ll see that it’s all pretty much the same.

00:48:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

Technology changes a bit, but problems are still the same.

00:48:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

And it’s really all about mindset and, you know, giving ourselves permission to find a way and to make things work right and sometimes no is no, and sometimes no is not right now.

00:48:37 Patrick Martin LCSW

And sometimes there are.

00:48:39 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know, if you can’t get into the front door or something, you can find a window.

00:48:42 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know to a problem and.

00:48:44 Speaker 3

For sure.

00:48:45 Patrick Martin LCSW

I know that’s your area of expertise is helping people find, you know, other ways to to accomplish their goals.

00:48:53 Hillary Walsh

Creative solutions, absolutely.

00:48:54 Patrick Martin LCSW

Creative solutions, right?

00:48:55 Hillary Walsh

Creative solutions.

00:48:56 Hillary Walsh

We have to be innovative.

00:48:57 Hillary Walsh

We we have a limited number of tools on our immigration lawyer toolbox, but a screwdriver?

00:49:04 Hillary Walsh

You turn around and it can also be a hammer.

00:49:06 Hillary Walsh

So let’s talk right away.

00:49:06 Patrick Martin LCSW

That’s right.

00:49:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

Well, I’m so glad that you’re doing the work that you are and the people you know aren’t you know who need you.

00:49:15 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know, hopefully we’ll we’ll find you and you’re doing great work and I know you’re scrappy and I know that you have you know, wild tooth and nail to to build.

00:49:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

This is meaningful.

00:49:28 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know, business that serves great needs, you know, in our society.

00:49:32 Patrick Martin LCSW

And I really appreciate what you’re doing.

00:49:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

Would it be OK if I had you back on down the road and see?

00:49:37 Hillary Walsh

I would love love.

00:49:37 Patrick Martin LCSW

How things are going, yeah.

00:49:38 Hillary Walsh

I would love that. Please check in. We’ll see if I’m like aged 3000 years and look like the Titanic lady and you know.

00:49:45

A year from now.

00:49:45 Patrick Martin LCSW

Up the self-care.

00:49:47 Hillary Walsh

Like my self-care treatment, I need a face lift now.

00:49:51 Patrick Martin LCSW

There you.

00:49:52 Patrick Martin LCSW

Go. You deserve it.

00:49:57 Patrick Martin LCSW

So you have a website, right?

00:49:59 Speaker 3

Yes, yes.

00:50:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s new, right?

00:50:00 Hillary Walsh

Frontier US.

00:50:04 Patrick Martin LCSW

There we go.

00:50:05 Patrick Martin LCSW

This is your website, right?

00:50:06 Hillary Walsh

We go back when I had brown hair.

00:50:10 Patrick Martin LCSW

I love how you have it set up with lots of good resources.

00:50:14 Patrick Martin LCSW

Hear a little bit about you write life story.

00:50:17 Patrick Martin LCSW

For those who want to dig a little more, you’ve got some info on your team.

00:50:22 Patrick Martin LCSW

Right.

00:50:24 Patrick Martin LCSW

I think I saw a form at the top there for anyone who is interested in a consultation, right?

00:50:30 Hillary Walsh

Yes, absolutely.

00:50:31 Patrick Martin LCSW

Their case, basically, that was right up here, right?

00:50:34 Patrick Martin LCSW

A lot of little.

00:50:36 Patrick Martin LCSW

Rate case evaluation form.

00:50:38 Patrick Martin LCSW

You’ve got a blog.

00:50:39 Patrick Martin LCSW

I yeah, I thought I saw a blog here.

00:50:41 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yes, right, different articles on on.

00:50:46 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know, use case needs.

00:50:47 Hillary Walsh

It’s funny, we.

00:50:48 Hillary Walsh

Have more recent ones and I don’t know why they don’t load on the English side, but on the Spanish side they load.

00:50:53 Hillary Walsh

But we need to fix that.

00:50:54 Hillary Walsh

Just launched a.

00:50:55 Hillary Walsh

Podcast as well called immigration law made easy and this is our way of helping people whether you are near or far.

00:50:59 Speaker 3

Oh, excellent.

00:51:06 Hillary Walsh

Uhm get access you?

00:51:09 Hillary Walsh

Complex answers without having to pay for it.

00:51:12 Hillary Walsh

Because if if the only way you can get some of these answers is by paying hundreds or thousands of dollars, sometimes that’s a huge roadblock for people and they simply cannot.

00:51:22 Hillary Walsh

They can’t do it, but we all have. We all have phones these days and hopefully people can can TuneIn and on Fridays.

00:51:30 Hillary Walsh

We do a.

00:51:32 Hillary Walsh

Podcast episode that’s all about good news.

00:51:34 Hillary Walsh

In immigration we always hear about the border wall and you know a lot of really a lot of really negative vibration things that come into our mind and when we start thinking about immigration.

00:51:47 Hillary Walsh

But what are all the great things that are happening in the immigration space?

00:51:50 Hillary Walsh

So we do that on Fridays.

00:51:53 Patrick Martin LCSW

And what’s the name of that?

00:51:53 Hillary Walsh

Podcast again, immigration law made easy.

00:51:57 Patrick Martin LCSW

I want to love that.

00:51:58 Patrick Martin LCSW

What a great name for a podcast.

00:52:00 Patrick Martin LCSW

Immigration law made easy.

00:52:01 Patrick Martin LCSW

Is there a?

00:52:02 Patrick Martin LCSW

Link to that on your site here.

00:52:04 Hillary Walsh

I don’t know, because we, I said I should say no, we don’t have one on there, but we need one.

00:52:10 Hillary Walsh

But we just launched it last week, so we did all the recording stuff and dropped our first right.

00:52:12 Patrick Martin LCSW

Oh, wow. Yeah.

00:52:13 Patrick Martin LCSW

So fresh, fresh out of the oven.

00:52:15 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, it was very fresh.

00:52:15 Patrick Martin LCSW

How exciting.

00:52:16 Hillary Walsh

I’m really excited about it.

00:52:18 Patrick Martin LCSW

And you said that?

00:52:18 Hillary Walsh

I showed it to my husband this morning over coffee and he’s like, wow, you’re like, so official.

00:52:18 Patrick Martin LCSW

The websites.

00:52:23 Patrick Martin LCSW

Right, I love it.

00:52:24 Patrick Martin LCSW

And I got immigration law made easy.

00:52:27 Patrick Martin LCSW

In a website.

00:52:28 Patrick Martin LCSW

And blog.

00:52:29 Hillary Walsh

Great YouTube channel, lots of content on there.

00:52:32 Hillary Walsh

We talk about trafficking every single Tuesday with one of our other attorneys who she is an expert on TV says.

00:52:40 Hillary Walsh

And trafficking is so common in the immigration community, labor trafficking in particular, and it’s.

00:52:48 Hillary Walsh

It’s not a Liam Neilson movie.

00:52:50 Hillary Walsh

It’s real life.

00:52:52 Patrick Martin LCSW

OK, so you’re holding out on me ‘cause.

00:52:54 Patrick Martin LCSW

There’s so much important information here.

00:52:55 Hillary Walsh

Oh yeah, in our Facebook page.

00:52:57 Hillary Walsh

I really our website is kind of.

00:52:58 Hillary Walsh

Like our main client base is not going to go hang out on our website.

00:53:03 Hillary Walsh

They’re more they’re going to find us probably.

00:53:06 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, probably on Facebook and probably on on YouTube trying to answer trying to Google and answer questions.

00:53:13 Hillary Walsh

But that doesn’t mean that our main client base may find us there, but other people may find us here.

00:53:20 Hillary Walsh

And so we’re trying to get value anywhere you might turn.

00:53:23 Patrick Martin LCSW

I see.

00:53:24 Patrick Martin LCSW

What is your YouTube?

00:53:26 Hillary Walsh

It should just be new frontier immigration law, you know, we got lots of.

00:53:29 Patrick Martin LCSW

Oh, OK, I’m going to link up to everything in the show notes for everyone because.

00:53:31 Hillary Walsh

Stuff on here.

00:53:32 Hillary Walsh

Oh, thank you.

00:53:34 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, thank you so much.

00:53:35 Hillary Walsh

Hopefully there’s an answer in there that that gifts someone, even if it’s just this seems so complicated and yet I understand a little bit more, I get a little bit more.

00:53:36 Patrick Martin LCSW

You like?

00:53:49 Hillary Walsh

Agency in my life?

00:53:51 Hillary Walsh

Uhm, if I can gift that to somebody, that’s going to help them have more agency in their life in so many.

00:53:57 Hillary Walsh

Other places too.

00:53:59 Patrick Martin LCSW

That’s really the theme here, is you’re making yourself accessible, right?

00:54:02 Patrick Martin LCSW

I think that’s the biggest barriers people think, oh, you know, legal help is, you know, not for.

00:54:08 Patrick Martin LCSW

You know the non wealthy people who can’t afford you know who aren’t fortunate and not for privileged enough to have a beer making the information accessible between.

00:54:16 Patrick Martin LCSW

I mean an.

00:54:17 Patrick Martin LCSW

English and Spanish version of your website, a podcast, a YouTube channel.

00:54:23 Patrick Martin LCSW

You’re advocating for special needs and the victims within the those populations and trafficking and just so much there, the work you’re doing and you’re very, very humble and you don’t put your own horn, evidently, but.

00:54:36 Hillary Walsh

Well, I mean I I can’t do it. We have almost 100 people on staff. So like people will ask, especially in Mom related podcasts like how do you do everything? And the the real honest answer is you don’t you just fine.

00:54:51 Hillary Walsh

The favorite things that you’re good at and that make you feel good and make you feel like you know I’m on the right track.

00:54:57 Hillary Walsh

And you do those as much as you can, and there are crappy things you have to do too.

00:55:01 Hillary Walsh

But you don’t do everything.

00:55:03 Hillary Walsh

Or you burn out and and drink.

00:55:06 Hillary Walsh

A lot of worrying, apparently.

00:55:09 Patrick Martin LCSW

Funny, yeah indeed.

00:55:12 Patrick Martin LCSW

Well you’ve certainly put together as you said like a you know a list team and you know great great company and I’m excited to see where it goes next and.

00:55:21 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’ll definitely be checking out that podcast and, you know, referring, referring people to it.

00:55:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

It’s great work you’re doing.

00:55:25 Hillary Walsh

Thank you.

00:55:26 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, I super appreciate it.

00:55:29 Patrick Martin LCSW

Will you feel free to jump back on anytime you like and.

00:55:32 Hillary Walsh

I so appreciate it.

00:55:34 Hillary Walsh

I would love to have you on.

00:55:36 Hillary Walsh

We have a podcast called the Grateful Leader and it’s really just a passion project where we get to talk about.

00:55:43 Hillary Walsh

I I want to deconstruct this illusion that.

00:55:48 Hillary Walsh

Air quotes successful?

00:55:49 Hillary Walsh

Or the people who have it together, uhm, have it together, we really, really don’t.

00:55:55 Hillary Walsh

And that we have these defining moments in our lives.

00:55:58 Hillary Walsh

We can look back on those and and see that at the time they were happening, it was our rock bottom moment, but because of this, not in spite of it, but because of this event.

00:56:08 Hillary Walsh

We have this other superpower or skill or other little negative empathy that we wouldn’t have had.

00:56:15 Hillary Walsh

About it, and I’m sure in your field you have that too.

00:56:18 Hillary Walsh

They say that therapists you know, you don’t become a social worker or therapist if you two are not broken.

00:56:24 Hillary Walsh

Otherwise, you know, why would you?

00:56:25 Patrick Martin LCSW

Lots of truth to that.

00:56:25 Hillary Walsh

Why would you want to help heal?

00:56:27 Patrick Martin LCSW

I’ll just say I’m an underdog who who found a way out, so I’m trying to pay it forward.

00:56:33 Patrick Martin LCSW

Absolutely, yes.

00:56:33 Hillary Walsh

Yeah, I love it.

00:56:35 Hillary Walsh

Well, we will.

00:56:36 Hillary Walsh

We’ll have you on and you’ll get to have all my questions.

00:56:38 Patrick Martin LCSW

Yeah, yeah, excellent.

00:56:40 Hillary Walsh

I love it.

00:56:40 Patrick Martin LCSW

I would love that.

00:56:43 Patrick Martin LCSW

Thank you so much for your time, Hillary.

00:56:45 Patrick Martin LCSW

And I wish you a very pleasant week and continued growth in your your mission.

00:56:50 Hillary Walsh

Thank you so much.

00:56:51 Hillary Walsh

You as well.

00:56:51 Hillary Walsh
